“The city of Toulouse has now its own font: the typeface Garonne has just been tabled in the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI). It is a collaboration between the municipality and the Fine Arts School of Toulouse. The goal: define the graphic identity of the city. Reserved exclusively to Toulouse, this new writing is a kind of graphic signature:” You will recognize the municipality of Toulouse at first glance. It is more elegant than a logo repeated endlessly,” says François Chastanet, graphic design teacher in the Fine Arts school.
It has been designed by Alejandro Lo Celso, François Chastanet, Géraud Soulhiol and Laure Afchain.

“YouWorkForThem has always been focused on Typography since day one. This year we spent a lot of time and energy on font development and commissioning new work, with big results. We premiered the idea of Hand-Set fonts, showing the world that typography is much more than what exists inside a font.”
Never really jumped on the Gotham train. Don’t get me wrong, its a great face, but it just never called my name. BUT Hoefler and Frere-Jones just released a condensed version that will burn your eyes out. Reminds me a bit of Futura Condensed in ways, which is a great thing. Great job guys and great move.
Grid Index is a visual lexicon of patterns and grid systems. Based upon years of research, artist and musician Carsten Nicolai has discovered and unlocked the visual code for visual systems into a systematic equation of grids and patterns. The accompanying CD contains all of the grids and patterns featured in the publication from the simplest grids made up entirely of squares to the most complex irregular ones with infinitely unpredictable patterns of growth, as editable vector graphic data files. Grid Index can be used to map out the underlying grids of any single image or form and to create recurring geometrical grids in graphic design.
The people at Letterbox are a real bunch of typo-nuts. On their website you don’t only find a small selection of high quality typefaces. They also have some nice typographic tours through Melbourne and some other places down under. I personally love the way they balance elegance with modernist qualities which results in timeless classic’s. Check out their work and visit the store.
